High School Integration and accredited Short term College Courses

All of our programmes in Cape Town, South Africa are built around family homestays, which is where the student stays with their tutor or a host family. This gives the student a comfortable, friendly, home away from home. The school or College of choosing, is local and easily reached. It’s in a good safe residential area close to shops and the beach.  For students over 16 years of age, you can choose to attend Boland College and take an accredited six month Course in a wide range of subject such as Tourism; Hotel Management; Art and Design.  This will help you improve your English and give you a worthwhile accreditation.   You will be expected to live as part of the family and also join in all of the school activities. Your English MUST be at least Intermediate and you can stay from 1 month to 1 academic year.  Boland College Courses are a minimum of three months

Our schools are based in 3 mains areas;  Simons Town ( est over 200 years ago!) and Fish Hoek.  Then further along the coast towards Somerset West and Stellenbosch and finally north of Cape Town in Brackenfell.  All schools are well established; modern with good facilities and have a good ethnic mix

Most South African schools enjoy sports and they can be very competitive so if you enjoy Rugby or Cricket then you will feel right at home here.  For those who are more academic than sporty, you will also enjoy the cultural side as they have vibrant Drama Groups as well as IT Departments and always a School Newspaper.  Whats not to get involved in…..

You will be expected to wear the school uniform.  That’s “ non negotiable!”  The wearing of uniform is strictly enforced right down to the wearing of the correct shoes ! We will get you a School Buddy when you arrive to show you around and help introduce you to the schedule.   Be sure your host family will also play an active part

Lots of social events to attend….

Additionally, we have a resident Local Co-Ordinator who will meet you on arrival and at other times during your stay. She lives very near to the school and is always on hand should you have any worries that your host family can’t help you with. She will be in contact with you; your own family; your host family and the school at all times.

Duration of your High school immersion/schuleraustausch

You can attend from 1 month to 1 academic year and the only requirement is an acceptable level/understanding of English as you will be immersed in the school curriculum immediately. You will also be expected to purchase a school uniform.

During school life you can expect to attend all lessons for your academic year,  participate fully in sporting activities and be involved in any After School Events that occur.

Information about some of our partner schools in Cape Town and surrounding areas

We are very lucky to have a special working relationship with schools throughout the Cape Town area. The schools vary in what they offer. Some of them are Arts and Media; others specialise in sports and some look for strong academic learners. What they all have in common however, is the ability to include you fully on our High School Exchange Immersion programme. These High School Exchange Programmes can vary in length from 1 month up to 1 academic year. During that time you will most certainly be welcomed with “ open arms” but also expected to play an active part in the school curriculum. Our Local Coordinator regularly meets and inspects the school and is kept up to date with their after school Clubs and Activities

So what does that mean?

This means that you must treat this High School placement as seriously as you would any other placement in your own country. You will be expected to attend school every day (*unless you are unwell, of course ) ; wear the school uniform; play an active role in their Sports Programmes ( South Africans love sports); attend all lessons; revise and take their end of Term Examinations. In short you must make as much effort in this school placement as if you were in your own regular school. Homework will be expected to be completed and full participation in all classes. However, its not all work because after school you can attend a variety of After School Clubs which range from Public Debating; Sailing; Cookery; Chess; Water Polo and much more. If we can, we will place you with a host family who also has children attending your own school but if not, then the chosen host family will take and collect you from the school each day. Additionally, during school holidays, you will be invited to attend Camps and Tours either with your school or with one of our preferred Tour Agents where you can take part in a canoe trip up Orange River; visit the Elephants at Addo or spend a day at Cape Point.

During your time in Cape Town you will be monitored by one of our carefully selected Local Coordinators, who have a wealth of experience in this field. They will meet you on arrival and during your time in Cape Town and will ensure you are happy and settled with both your school and host family.

Our schools are varied and listed below. We try to place you with your first choice of school, but please remember this is subject to space at the relevant school as well as the amount of time you wish to spend in Cape Town. Some schools prefer short term placements and others prefer Overseas students to spend 1 academic year with them. Always discuss your choice with us and we shall try to please….

High School Experience vs High School Integration

What is High School Experience/High School Integration? A high School experience can be from as little as one month up to 3 months. A School integration means you really get involved with the school curriculum and can be from 6 months to 1 Academic year.

What ever you choose you will be expected ti take part in all school activities, and lessons. And don’t forget the wearing of the school uniform. That’s compulsory. To complete the programme, you will be pleased with one of our superb host families, who will help you show you the South African way of life. Read more about their time in South African in our Blogs.
