Red Hill Informal Settlement
Red Hill has been around for over 30 years. It is small and friendly. Most of the people there are at work all day so the Creche is very popular! We need Volunteers to help look after the Babies and Toddlers in the day; amuse them; feed them and play with them. Helping them to learn English is also very important. Your day will be varied. You could be playing games with the toddlers or feeding the babies. We might need you to take one to the local Clinic if they are not well. Be sure the work within the Red Hill Creche will be satisfying and rewarding.
Please donate to our on going project at Red Hill
In Red Hill, South Africa, we have witnessed some heart-breaking, very poor living conditions where babies and toddlers are looked after.
Kagiso with a daily help from another young lady is taking care of 22 children, every day. They use a small hut of an average bathroom size to put them to sleep and to play with toddlers.
The hut isn’t at its best condition (not even close to good as you can see on the pictures below) and definitely is not protecting from bad weather especially throughout the winter time (August). We are hoping to involve as many people as possible to donate some money towards our goal (£2000) to let us build a covered porch, which would include a concrete path and a canopy to protect them from the rain.
So this is our call to the building societies, constructors, health& skincare companies and everyone who could help, to add an affordable amount of money towards the goal we’ve set or products they market and would be happy to donate.
In return, as a thank you we will make sure that everyone involved in this action will receive an update with information about what was bought and when was it sent to /received in Red Hill’s Creche.
Some of our other ongoing Projects
Sports at School
We are trying to forge strong links and assist in a local Township but football is always the common language.
There is also a super Sewing Club where local ladies are taught how to use a sewing machine professionally. Help them with their skills and assist in the work they are undertaking…
The Lab was designed for modelling a student-discovery approach to Maths instruction for Ukhanyo teachers. Each morning four sections of grade 4 learners spend 45-50 minutes in the Lab with their teacher, Scott or Laurie, and the new Lab assistant. Our goal is to demonstrate that efficiency of learning, knowledge retention, and even student behaviour improve directly as classroom instruction shifts from a teacher-centric to a student-centric model.
